The Research and Innovation Directorate (RID) is pleased to inform the University community of the Wellcome Early-Career Awards, a funding opportunity designed to support early-career researchers who are ready to establish their own independent research programme. The scheme funds innovative research that advances understanding in areas with the potential to improve human health and wellbeing.

 Award Amount and Duration

• Funding: Salary for the grant holder plus up to £400,000 in research expenses
• Duration: Up to 5 years (may be shorter or longer depending on the project and working arrangements)

 Eligibility

Applicants must:

• Be early-career researchers ready to lead an independent research project
• Hold a PhD (or equivalent research experience)
• Demonstrate potential for research leadership
• Be hosted by an eligible not-for-profit organisation, such as a university or research institute
