Global Consumer Intelligence (GCI) course
The Research and Innovation Directorate (RID) is pleased to announce that the Global Consumer Intelligence (GCI) course, offered by the Matsuo-Iwasawa Lab at the University of Tokyo, provides a comprehensive, hands-on learning experience covering the full spectrum from “the purpose of studying data science” to “Python and machine learning fundamentals,” and “practical data application in business settings.” The course is thoughtfully designed to equip students with the foundational knowledge and practical skills required to take their first steps as data scientists.
This is a three-month intensive programme comprising weekly 90–120 minute lectures, structured homework assignments, a competition and a final capstone assignment.

Eligibility
Be enrolled as a student as of April 8, 2026
Be currently enrolled in an accredited educational program. (This includes doctoral, master’s, bachelor’s, associate-level programs, technical or vocational programs, or secondary education such as high school or middle school.) Non-degree research students are eligible only if they hold a valid student ID issued by a university or equivalent institution.
Be able to study independently and complete the course
Be able to study independently and committed to completing the entire course.

Final application deadline: April 2, 2026 (14:00UTC).
For eligible applicants, a course acceptance notice and pre-course learning materials will be sent within 2–3 weeks after application.
