Global Infectious Disease (GID) research training program

The Research and Innovation Directorate (RID) is pleased to announce the Global Infectious Disease (GID) research training program.

 The program addresses research training needs related to infectious diseases that are predominantly endemic in or impact upon people living in developing countries. The training programs include a variety of research training options to match the needs of the developing country institution. Program focus on a major endemic or life-threatening emerging infectious disease, neglected tropical disease, infections that frequently occur as a co-infection in HIV infected individuals, or infections associated with noncommunicable disease conditions of public health importance in LMICs. The ultimate goal is to build a critical mass of researchers and support staff to conduct independent infectious disease research in developing country institutions.

 Program Objective

  1. To develop research training opportunities and professional development activities for a collaborative group of LMIC scientists and health research professionals at an LMIC institution to strengthen its capacity to conduct independent, sustainable infectious disease research.
  2. To provide mentored infectious disease research experience that is directly relevant to the health priorities of the LMIC of the trainees.
  3. To strengthen the capabilities of trainees at the proposed LMIC institution to lead, manage and train others in infectious disease research.

Amount:              USD230,000

Duration:            5 years maximum

 Eligibility

  • Public/State Controlled Institutions of Higher Education
  • Private Institutions of Higher Education
  • Applicant institutions may submit more than one application, provided that each application is scientifically distinct.
  • Foreign institutions in LMICs may also apply.
