Biocodex Microbiota Foundation Gut Microbiota International Call for Projects
The Research and Innovation Directorate (RID) is pleased to bring to the attention of the University community a funding opportunity under the Biocodex Microbiota Foundation Gut Microbiota International Call for Projects.
The 2026 call is themed “Diet-Microbiome Interactions Shaping Immune Function in the Treatment of Human Disease.” Proposed projects should involve microbiome analysis, immunophenotyping, and a dietary component. The project should be primarily conducted in humans and in a disease context, as studies purely on healthy subjects are excluded. The Foundation also indicates that purely observational studies should be avoided, and some experimental validation is expected.
Eligibility
The grant is open to physicians, PhDs, and Pharm-Ds working in relevant subject areas such as gastroenterology, paediatrics, microbiology, infectious diseases, and internal medicine. There are no geographic limitations, and candidates from all countries are potentially eligible. A principal investigator who has already received a Biocodex Microbiota Foundation international grant may not apply again, although a principal investigator of a National Grant may apply for the International Grant. On this basis, the University of Ghana is eligible as a host institution for qualified applicants.
Grant Value and Duration
The annual grant is EUR 200,000 (VAT included), maximum project duration is 3 years.
Application Deadline: 30 November 2026 (24:00 CET)
