2027 L’Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science International Awards

The Research and Innovation Directorate (RID) is pleased to bring to the attention of the University community the Call for Nominations for the 2027 L’Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science International Awards. The 2027 edition of the International Awards will honour five outstanding women researchers, each working in one of the following regions: Africa and the Arab States, Asia and the Pacific, Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean, and North America. One laureate will be selected from each region.

The awards are for outstanding contributions in the following fields:

  • Physics
  • Mathematics
  • Computer and Information Sciences
  • Chemistry
  • Earth and Related Environmental Sciences

Each laureate will receive an award of €100,000.

 Eligibility Criteria
Candidates must:

  • be recognised for their scientific excellence by the international scientific community;
  • be actively involved in scientific research; and
  • work in one of the eligible scientific fields listed under the call.

Please note that eligibility is determined by the place where the candidate has worked for at least 10 years, rather than by nationality. There is no age limit.

Nomination Process

This is a nomination-based award. Self-nominations are not eligible. Nominations must be submitted by an eminent scientist holding at least a PhD in a science subject, such as:

  • Heads of university or scientific institutions
  • Members of academies of science
  • Holders of research chairs
  • Full professors
  • Former Laureates of the For Women in Science International Awards

Selection Criteria
Candidates will be assessed on the basis of:

  • outstanding contribution to the advancement of science;
  • impact of their research in the field;
  • peer recognition through publications and scientific standing; and
  • commitment to education, mentoring, and/or the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
