The Research and Innovation Directorate (RID) is pleased to inform the University community that the Wellcome Trust’s Climate Impacts Awards is open for applications. Climate change is one of the greatest threats to global health, yet its effects are often invisible or insufficiently reflected in policy decisions. The scheme seeks to support transdisciplinary research projects that aim to make the health impacts of climate change visible, evidence-driven, and actionable, enabling timely policy and practice change at scale.

Award Amount & Duration

• Up to £2.5 million per award
• Project duration: Up to 3 years

Who Can Apply

1. Lead applicants based at eligible administering organisations worldwide (except mainland China). 
2. Teams must include co-applicants with expertise in climate science, health, policy, communications, and public engagement.
3. Eligible institutions include:

• Academic institutions;
• Non-governmental and civil society organisations;
• International and multilateral organisations;
• Private sector organizations able to meet the Wellcome grant condition.

• Request for confirmation of fitness of proposed idea for the scope of this Award via email at climateimpacts@wellcome.org  is available until Friday, 6th March 2026.
• Application deadline - Wednesday, 8th  April, 2026 at 15:00 GMT/BST
