The Research and Innovation Directorate (RID) is pleased to inform the University community of a new opportunity under the Eric and Wendy Schmidt AI in Science Global Faculty Fellowship Programme, hosted by the I-X Centre for AI in Science at Imperial College London. The programme invites academic staff (faculty) with a background in science and engineering from the University of Ghana, to apply for short-term mini-visits at Imperial College London, lasting 2–6 weeks. These visits aim to strengthen global research capacity in AI-driven science and foster long-term partnerships between Imperial and partner institutions. Expertise in AI is not a prerequisite nor is a background in Computing
Award Details
Selected faculty will receive the following support:
- Subsistence Grant: £950 per week (covers accommodation, food, and local expenses)
- Travel Support: Up to £1,500 for return economy-class airfare
- Visa Support: Coverage of the UK Standard Visitor Visa fee (£127), where applicable
- Insurance: Support for travel/medical insurance
- Administrative Assistance: Support with visa documentation and ATAS clearance (for research-focused visits)
Note: The fellowship supports individual faculty members only. Dependents are not covered.
Eligibility
- Must be a faculty member at University of Ghana
- Applicants must secure a host academic at Imperial College London, including a letter of support approved by the host’s Head of Department.
- Research visits may require ATAS clearance, depending on the nature of the work.

Application Requirements
Applicants will be required to submit:
- A 100-word lay summary of the purpose of the visit
- A 200-word research outline (for research-focused visits)
- A letter of support from the prospective Imperial host academic
- Contact details of a support staff member at the University of Ghana
