The Research and Innovation Directorate (RID) is pleased to inform the University community that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs/DANIDA is inviting multidisciplinary proposals to examine global health issues, promoting good health outcomes and well-being for the most vulnerable, and exploring new forms of vulnerability.
Proposals should also consider how health challenges intersect with broader development issues such as poverty, gender inequality, climate change, environmental degradation, political exclusion, displacement, participation and governance. Priority should be given to research focusing on marginalized and vulnerable regions, sectors, and populations, as well as studies that investigate emerging forms of vulnerability.
Key areas of interest include, but are not limited to:
- Maternal and child health.
- Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR).
- Inequalities in the response to infectious diseases, including investments in disease
prevention and treatment.
- Tackling the increased burden of non-communicable diseases (NCD’s) and their
interaction with communicable diseases.
- Strengthening health systems, including access to and coverage of essential health
services particularly for people in vulnerable settings and situations.
- Strengthening global health security, including the promotion of the One Health approach as well as efforts to prevent and control Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR).
- Linkages between climate-related challenges and health issues and other forms of co-
Vulnerabilities.
Award Budget and Duration
- Up to DKK 10 million per project for 5 years.
Eligibility
- Applications should come from a university or research-based institution in an eligible partner country with the capacity to (co-) supervise PhD students, and with documented involvement in a Danida-funded research project completed between 1 Jan 2022 and not later than 31 Dec 2026.
- The Principal Investigator (PI) must have held a key position (e.g., PI or work package leader) in that project. CVs must show that at least one key researcher from each institution (applicant and Danish partner) had a significant role in the previous project.

- PIs should note that they will be involved in a substantial workload, particularly at the beginning of the project.

- Partnerships must follow equity principles, with active contributions from all partners in Phase 1 and Phase 2 applications.
- Additional partners (international, public authorities, private sector, non-academic institutions) may be included as secondary partners.
