The American University of Sharjah (AUS) invites applications for the 2026 cohort of the AUS Postdoctoral Fellowship Award, a prestigious two-year opportunity for outstanding early-career researchers and creative professionals to pursue independent, high-impact work in a vibrant, interdisciplinary academic environment in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The fellowship is designed to attract outstanding researchers worldwide to contribute to the growing and thriving scholarly environment at the American University of Sharjah (AUS).
This highly competitive award supports original projects across the sciences, humanities, social sciences, engineering, business, and the creative arts.
The AUS Postdoctoral Fellowship Program aims to:
- Elevate AUS’s international reputation as a hub for cutting-edge scholarly work and academic excellence.
- Attract and retain outstanding scholars who contribute to advancing knowledge and addressing global challenges.
- Foster a culture of interdisciplinary collaboration, innovation, and scholarly leadership within AUS.
Eligibility
- PhD or terminal degree in the proposed area of work within 3 years of being awarded the degree.
- Global Accessibility: Open to applicants of all genders and nationalities and fields, ensuring diversity and inclusivity in the candidate pool. Applicants who earned their PhD from AUS will not be considered.
- Demonstrated Research Excellence: Applicants must demonstrate a strong academic and scholarly record, with evidence of significant contributions and potential for future achievements.
- Alignment with AUS Goals: The proposed work must align with AUS’s strategic priorities and potentially have a high impact on advancing knowledge and addressing societal challenges. Details can be found at https://www.aus.edu/research.
- Mentorship Requirement: Applicants must identify and secure a commitment from one or more AUS faculty members to serve as their supervisor(s) before applying. Faculty profiles are available at https://www.aus.edu/academics/faculty-hu
- Opportunity to teach up to one course per academic year is available (this is optional).
Award Highlights
Salary: A basic salary of up to AED 20,000/month (approx. USD 5,400) plus benefits such as:
- Health insurance
- Airfare
- Residency fees
- Annual leave and
- End-of-service indemnity
The salary offered will depend on factors such as graduating university experience, publication history and innovation performance.
Housing for single fellows may be provided free of charge, based on availability.
Duration: 2 years (full-time).
