Wellcome is inviting proposals for its Mental Health Award. This two-phase grant supports real-world testing and scaling of proven psychological or social interventions addressing anxiety, depression, and psychosis among young people in Low-and Middle -Income Countries (LMICs). This is a prime opportunity for interdisciplinary teams, combining researchers, implementation partners, and individuals with lived experience to make a transformative impact on mental health research.
Award Amount and Duration
The award is structured in two phases:
- Foundation Phase (starts the week of 28 July 2025):
- Grant: £200,000 per selected team (20 awards)
- Duration: 12 months
- Goal: Funding to develop teams and detailed proposals
- Impact Phase (opens February 2027):
- Grant: £5–8 million per selected team
- Duration: Up to 5 years
Eligibility
- The Lead should be an established researcher from any relevant discipline at an eligible institution (anywhere except mainland China).
- Research must take place in the UK and/or LMICs
- The intervention must be psychological or social, with proven effectiveness and defined active ingredient(s), and scalable in the intended setting.
- Teams must be diverse and interdisciplinary
