BERNARD OBESE NTOW
Valedictorian - Class of 2024
My Story!
Hello, my name is Bernard Obese Ntow. I studied Geography and Resource Development, as well as History, at the University of Ghana, where I was a proud recipient of the Tullow Tertiary Scholarship. I graduated as the valedictorian of my class with a final grade point average (FGPA) of 3.98.
My academic journey began with uncertainty and immense financial hardship. I struggled even to purchase an application form to apply for university. The first half of my studies was made possible only through personal sacrifices, small contributions from kind individuals, and borrowing. I vividly remember walking to my hall of residence on my first day with just 50 cedis in my pocket, uncertain how I would make it through school.
Everything changed when I found support through the Research Innovation Directorate. I was eventually awarded the generous Tullow Scholarship, a life-changing opportunity. From that point on, I was able to remain financially stable throughout my studies, and I often say with pride, “I was as rich as I could be while in school.” The scholarship fully covered my tuition, residency, and provided stipends while also opening doors to workshops and enrichment programs that broadened my academic and professional outlook.
Thanks to Tullow’s support, I could focus fully on my studies and research, participate in fieldwork, and grow intellectually. I once told the scholarship panel during my interview that I wanted to be a valedictorian, and today, I am honoured to have fulfilled that promise.
The Tullow Scholarship provided financial support; gave me the confidence, stability, and opportunity to thrive. I am forever grateful to everyone who contributed to my journey from the very beginning to this moment. There are more anticipatory victories ahead, and I am determined to make everyone proud.
