Joint Japan/World Bank Graduate Scholarship Program (JJ/WBGSP) 2026

The Research and Innovation Directorate (RID) is pleased to inform the University community of the opening of Joint Japan/World Bank Graduate Scholarship Program (JJ/WBGSP) 2026, fully funded Master’s Scholarships for Developing Countries.

The JJ/WBGSP is a highly competitive, fully funded master’s scholarship program administered by the World Bank and funded by the Government of Japan. It supports professionals from developing countries to pursue development-related master’s degrees at leading universities worldwide.

For the 2026 academic year, the program will support scholars enrolled in 44 participating master’s programs offered by 24 universities across the United States, Europe, Africa, Oceania, and Japan.

The scholarship aims to develop future leaders who will return to their home countries to contribute to social and economic development.

Scholarship benefits

  • Economy class air travel between your home country and the host university at the start of your study program and immediately following the end of the scholarship period. In addition to the two-way air travel, scholars will receive a US $600 travel allowance for each trip.
  • Tuition for your graduate program and the cost of basic medical insurance obtained through the university.
  • While on campus during the scholarship period, a monthly subsistence allowance to cover all living expenses (accommodations, food, etc., including books). The amount of the allowance varies depending on the host country.

The scholarship funds selected master’s programs in development‑related disciplines, including:

  • Economic Policy Management
  • Development Economics
  • Public Policy & Governance
  • Tax Policy
  • Infrastructure & Urban Development
  • Environmental & Sustainable Development
  • Social & Health Systems Development

Duration: 2 years

Deadline: May 29, 2026

Eligibility

  1. Be a national of a World Bank member developing country
  2. Not hold dual citizenship of any developed country
  3. Hold a bachelor’s degree earned at least three years before the application deadline
  4. Have at least three years of paid, full-time development-related work experience within the past six years
  5. Be unconditionally admitted (except for funding) to a JJ/WBGSP participating master’s program located outside their country of citizenship and residence.
  6. Upload an official admission letter before submitting the scholarship application.
