The Human and Animal Research Ethics Services (HARES) team in the University of Ghana continued its stakeholder engagement sessions with a courtesy call on the Provost of the College of Health Sciences. The visit on Tuesday, 2nd September, 2025 is the third in the series of visits to Provosts of the various Colleges in the University, with the goal of engaging with stakeholders for improved collaboration and service delivery.
Present at the meeting were: Professor Alfred Edwin Yawson, Provost of College of Health Sciences (CHS), Dr. Helena Baidoo, Team Lead, HARES; Mr. Joseph Baah, Administrator of Ethical and Protocol Review Committee (EPRC), College of Health Sciences; Ms. Hannah Abban, Administrator, NMIMR Institutional Review Board; Mrs. Angelina S. Appiah-Kubi, Administrator, Ethics Committee for the Humanities (ECH); Ms. Angela Abroso, Administrator, Ethics Committee for Basic and Applied Sciences (ECBAS); and Mrs. Stephanie Adawu Dadzie, Chief Administrative Assistant, College of Health Sciences.
Discussions at the meeting centered on close collaboration between the Research and Innovation Directorate and the College of Health Sciences in strengthening support for ethical research practices. Dr Baidoo acknowledged the pivotal role the EPRC has played over the years in strengthening training for various stakeholders within the college which has had positive impact. This she admitted was a good opportunity to leverage for further collaboration for their mutual benefit. Professor Alfred E. Yawson emphasized the value of ethical oversight in research activities and vouched his support to facilitate and improve existing structures. The support received from the Research and Innovation Directorate was well acknowledged. Both parties renewed their commitment to strengthening human and animal research ethics services taking advantage of technology and current tools available to the benefit of the university of Ghana in achievement of its strategic priorities.
The engagement is a major stride by the Human and Animal Research Ethics’ team in its efforts to collaborate with constituent units of the University of Ghana, to ensure ethical research standards are maintained for mutual benefit and impactful research.
