Professor David Dodoo-Arhin, the newly appointed Director of the Research and Innovation, held a meeting with the Directorate’s staff to present his strategic vision for the next four years. His appointment, which took effect on January 1st, 2025, marks the beginning of a new chapter for RID.
During the meeting, Professor Dodoo-Arhin outlined his mission to position the University of Ghana as a leading research hub in Africa, driving innovation and fostering impactful discoveries that meet both local and international standards. He introduced his "5 for 5" vision for the Directorate, which aligns with the University’s “5 for 5” strategic objectives. His vision focuses on:
- Enhancing Research Capacity and Infrastructure: Promoting professional development, with a particular emphasis on postdoctoral fellows and early-career researchers.
- Fostering Interdisciplinary, Multidisciplinary, and Collaborative Research: Strengthening visibility and building partnerships across diverse academic fields and with external stakeholders.
- Promoting Innovations, Intellectual Property, Technology Transfer, and Future Partnerships: Advancing intellectual property management, innovation-driven initiatives, and industry collaborations.
- Advancing Societal Impact and Sustainability: Ensuring that research outputs are not only innovative but also relevant and sustainable for the community and beyond.
- Ensuring Ethical and Sustainable Research Practices: Upholding the highest standards of ethical conduct in research to build trust and integrity within the academic community and society at large.
Professor Dodoo-Arhin emphasized the importance of mentorship, capacity-building, and collaboration. He stated that his leadership would be guided by inclusivity and collective responsibility, with the goal of creating a dynamic and supportive environment where staff and faculty can collaborate effectively to achieve the University’s research goals and priorities.
Having previously held senior administrative roles, Professor Dodoo-Arhin brings extensive experience to his new role. , As the immediate past Director of the Institute of Applied Science and Technology (IAST), he has an appreciable understanding of RID’s operations and seeks to build on the progress attained, while setting ambitious new goals for the future.
Prof Dodoo-Arhin engaged staff at length in discussions on the opportunities and challenges of Directorate as well as opportunities for personal development.
