Imaging 4 All (i4A) open call

The Research and Innovation Directorate (RID) is pleased to inform the University community of the Imaging 4 All (i4A) open call, a global funding opportunity funded by the Wellcome Trust and coordinated by Global BioImaging. This programme supports researchers and imaging facility professionals based in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) to access world-class imaging infrastructure, expertise, and training that align with their scientific goals

 There are three grant types available:

Access Grant

  • Supports access to imaging instruments and related services at a host facility for experimental imaging work or to derive imaging data.
  • Includes two tracks: Access Research and Access Skills.
  • Up to ~EUR 10,000 to cover imaging, travel, accommodation, visa, and related costs.

 Pro Grant

  • For applicants with more experience in imaging and facility operations who wish to expand practical expertise or conduct extended experimental work.
  • Includes Pro Research and Pro Skills tracks.
  • Budgets up to EUR 20,000 (international) or EUR 10,000 (national) depending on host location.

 Training Grant

  • Supports participation in accredited national or international training courses, workshops, or hands-on programs in biological/biomedical imaging, analysis, or facility management.
  • Training funding has multiple evaluation periods within the open call.

 Who Can Apply

Researchers at all career stages (e.g., Master’s/PhD students, postdoctoral fellows, principal investigators), as well as imaging facility staff and management, affiliated with a not-for-profit institution located in a low- or middle-income country (LMIC).

 Application Details

  • Deadline for applications: 28 February 2026
  • Visit/training completion: All funded visits and training must conclude by end of October 2026.

 RID encourages researchers from the University of Ghana working across biological, biomedical, and interdisciplinary sciences where imaging tools are relevant to consider this funding opportunity.
